Sports in the world: cultural treasure

In countries, all around the world, there are a lot of traditions that are respected by people as sacred beliefs. Eventually, all these traditions change into different forms and in this sense, are seen by people in different ways, it means that people changes its attitudes in front of the phenomena that are changing, many could become in a silent holy ceremony, other in physical activities that join towns and persons, this kind of traditions become sports.

It is known by everybody that sports are one of the most effective methods in order to get good health and beauty, and it is recommended by all the doctors; it doesn’t matter what kind of disease his patient has. But we can not talk about sports in a generic way, as it was only one way to practice it, because “sport” is the door to a giant world of activities, most of them with similar origins but with notable differences nowadays.

We can see that in any part of the world there is a sport that people feel as owned; and it is not completely false, actually there are a lot of reasons to say that sports belong to the people who has invented, changed o simply, practiced them.

In Colombia, we can say that there are some sports that make us feel as Colombian in foreign lands, for example “El tejo”, this is a sport that has been with us since our ancient aboriginal people and it is considered as the national Colombian sport, (it was said by the National Congress in 2000), and since then, its popularity has increased, also the proud of the people who play and feel it.

Nowadays, el tejo has its own anthem, prayer and specific rules, and in the radio we can hear about it, as an immaterial treasure of Colombia that we must conserve. It is easy to find some Facebook applications in which you can play it virtually.
As a conclusion, it is important, when talking about culture, see carefully this aspect: sports. Because behind all sports are many faces of the people beliefs, fears, traditions and, of course, hopes. We can not ignore sports when we would want to know another culture.
